I need 500 United miles (488 to be exact) for an award booking I'd like to make. Just cancelled my United card recently. What's a quick/easy way to get 500 miles? I can't think of any good ideas. As a last resort I'll just convert some SPG, Hilton, or Priority Club points to miles, but don't like the exchange ratios. Thanks for the ideas in advance!

Edit: One annoying facet of this "problem" is that I have 500 orphan Continental miles, but apparently you can only transfer UA <--> CO in increments of 1,000+ currently.

You can donate $100 or more to the American Red Cross for the Japan Earthquake effort and UA will give you 500 miles.

Not sure if it is the cheapest way to get the 500, but it certainly is for a good cause.

If you are in a time cruch you may just want to purchase them since UA claims the miles will be in your account within 48 hours. Posting miles to your account will vary with the other methods.

Transfers between Co and UA accounts must be in 1000 mile increments. So, there's no way to transfer 1500.
MYPoints takes months to post (I'm still waiting on mine).
You may want to call United and see if there is anyway they will make an exception for you to transfer your 500 CO miles.

The OP (where is he? :D) has 500 orphan CO miles. Add 500 CO miles from e-Rewards, and you have 1,000 CO miles to triffer to UA.

I did read about moving miles between CO and UA with the merger news. I didn't pay much attention to the details, and I haven't made any moves, so I'm assuming sunseeker may be on to something that I hadn't considered.

Thanks for the ideas guys. Unfortunately I'm short in e-rewards (and have not been getting many surveys). I think I'm going to make a hotel points transfer, and take a chance that the redemption I want will still be there. Thanks again!

The mileage transfer from UA to CO was slick and immediate for me.

How about transferring UA miles to CO account, then requesting award from CO (if available)?
