Introducing "A Conversation with ..." live chat series where milepoint members will enjoy an opportunity to have their questions answered directly by many of the most prominent leaders in the travel industry.

Join us and our special guest Maya Leibman, President of the AAdvantage Loyalty Program, during the May 4 live milepoint chat event. We are taking questions in advance and members will be able to ask questions live during the event.

While we can't guarantee all of the questions posted in this thread will be asked during the event (there are many other members with questions as well), pre-submitting a question presents an additional opportunity to get your question heard.

To avoid duplication and maintain the readability of this thread, posts will not be displayed until approved by a milepoint administrator. Please limit your posts to questions only, as general comments will not be approved.

Does AA anticipate re-establishing the relationship with Marriott Rewards at some point?

On routes where both BA and AA offer flights (e.g., DFW-LHR), what can be done to bring down BA YQ (fuel) surcharges to AA levels on BA award tickets.

Will AA someday limit the YQ on BA awards to transatlantic flights only (or transcontinental)? The way it is now, many intra-Europe awards are not even worth it.

Most recent AAdvantage bonuses have been restricted to round-trip travel. For those of us who tend to do multi-city/open-jaw trips, this can be restrictive -- and to the extent that AA's goal is to push pax onto underutilized flights (e.g. new routes), I'd like to think my one-way is better than nothing. Why not offer more bonuses that offer half points for one-way travel, just as AAdvantage used to do 3+ years ago?

We understand that there are changes coming to the Million Miler Programme. A number of members have earned 2MM on AA in order to become OneWorld Sapphire for life. Is there anything you can say about this?

  8. AA currents offers lifetime gold status for earning one million miles. Are there any plans to end this feature or require the one million miles to be flown miles rather than miles earned from any source?

One of the most frustrating experiences with award programs is seeing the value of points decrease. What are AAdvantage's plans to be sure the value of AAdvantage miles maintain and sustain their value over time. Ideally we'd like to see the value increase for a change!

What are AA's goals regarding upgrade awards among OW partners? What would AA prefer the situation to be?

My question as well, and would add re: the 2,000,000 tier as well.

Does AA anticipate establishing, or is AA trying to establish, a direct* relationship with American Express Membership Reward Points program? Given AMEX MR's loss of Continental this fall, AMEX might be open to such an exchange.

*- I know one can exchange/transfer MR points to BA miles.

  14. Personally I would like to see those who’ve achieved 1 Million Miles (Lifetime Advantage Gold) and 2 Million Miles (Lifetime Advantage Platinum) receive added benefits than their respective categories receive. As an example, when you reach Lifetime Gold you get the same benefits as someone who just qualified Gold for their first year. The same with Lifetime Platinum. I think the Lifetime Golds and Platinums should be recognized separately for their achievements. As a business owner I think a flier who has been loyal for many years and achieved Lifetime status is more valuable in the long term than someone who just qualified their first year or so. It’s important to award Golds, Platinums, and Executive Platinums for their achievements, but I think it’s equally important to award someone who has achieved lifetime status. This gives the lifetime member more benefits and it’s something for the annually qualifing Golds or Platinums to shoot for.

  15. When searching for an award redemption on CX or LA flights, there are instances when no seats are available if using AA miles, but there are seats if using BA miles. What is the policy that once a OW partner made award seats available, it was open to all OW partners?

Will we eventually have the ability to use our eVIPs/miles+copay online and to see waitlist or standby list status?

Is there anyway AA would consider a threshold for Lifetime Executive Platinum status. Something like 4MM or 5MM, because once you hit 2MM there really is not a lot of incentive to go any further.

Would AAdvantage consider permitting EXPs to pay a fee to extend unused, about-to-expire eVIPS?

Wouldn't AA's very lucrative relationship with Citibank limit AA's interest in such a partner expansion?

The joint business ventures have increased mileage accrual opportunities on OW partners in the last year. What steps can we expect to see from AA to promote and continue this trend? Many fares on OW partners without an AA codeshare still leave customers with very low, or even no, miles.

  22. Why do you charge "last minute" redemption fees 20 days in advance, even for citi cardholders, when you've already been paid $400+ for those miles we've earned via the card for an award. It is completely unfair to give us distressed inventory and charge us $50-$100 just to redeem, especially when the award wasn't available 21 days in advance.

  23. Why do you charge a $25 phone fee to book an reduced citi mileage award when I put the award on hold on aa.com and then must book via telephone to get the benefit. It's a 5 minute transaction and you charge $5 for something I absolutely cannot book online.

With the new BA/IB partnership, can we can someday use SWUs on their flights?
