Quick question: do the nights from credit cards count towards lifetime status?

Yes. Apparently not. They count towards annual elite status, but not lifetime status for the nights component.

Are you sure about that, Mike?

I know it's true for Marriott, but I seem to recall that William said they do not count toward lifetime with Starwood, and I'm pretty sure they haven't added to my totals.

I was - my renewal just hit and I could have sworn my counter updated. Searching through past threads, though, it looks like William has said no before - that the years of status count, and that the nights count towards annual status, but aren't "eligible nights" towards lifetime status.

    SNA's aren't part of the base Plat offering - they're a 50-night benefit.

My CC nights just posted and my lifetime count appears to have increased.

    Good, so I'm not crazy.

Starwood Lurkers - Did something change? Do these nights count now or is this an error in how the website is displaying them (or are B and I just plain insane)?

The 5 nights count as far as earning elite status, so they are going to indicate that on your account; however, the 5 nights from being a US SPG AMEX cardholder do not count towards the nights portion of the lifetime elite qualification.

If, however, you earn elite status with the assistance of the 2 stays/5 nights given from being a US SPG AMEX cardholder, that would help you to earn towards the year portion of the lifetime elite qualification.

Any thoughts on why the lifetime nights would increase? Website glitch?

I don't know, but I'll be glad to check. Might be a few days before I can get an answer, however.

That's just fine. I'll relax in my four points until then. :)

SPG Marketing confirms that nothing has changed with regard to the 5 nights counting towards the Lifetime Nights portion of Lifetime Elite qualification. It still does not count for that.

SPG Tech says that the Lifetime Nights display on spg.com did not tick up due to the recent re-application of 2 days/5 nights, so I guess the perception that it did will remain a mystery to everyone.

I'd say that's pretty definitively that, then. :)

    Hello William.

How long does it take for the stay ytd and nights ytd counter on the homepage to update with the SPG AMEX card? My status has changed to the Preferred Guest Plus, but the night counter has not yet updated. Thanks.

If you are a recent SPG AMEX cardholder, it may take three to four weeks for the 2 stays and 5 nights to be credited to your account.

Thanks William. Yes, I recently received the card. I was surprised how quickly my status updated to the Plus. Thanks.
