    Hi all,

A quick question about an AA award booking. The main trip is ORD-HKG on CX, and I'd like to add a free one-way to the beginning of the trip. I'd like to do BWI-ORD on AA, then a few months later ORD-HKG on CX.

I called AA, and they said that BWI-HKG with the stopover in ORD was pricing out as two awards. I checked ExpertFlyer, and it said that CX does have a published fare from BWI-HKG (that was the reason the agent said it was pricing as two awards). ORD is also my North American gateway city. Is there an AA award rule that I'm missing that would keep this from being booked as one award?

    Thanks for any responses!

I think it's AA that must have a published fare, and it shouldn't be a problem in your case. Have you tried connecting to a more competent agent perhaps? I notice that AA agents now fall into 2 distinct types -- either supremely competent and helpful, or total idiots that sometimes work from home and leave you on hold for hours while they figure out how their terminal works.

I haven't checked to ensure there's a CX BWI-HKG fare though there probably is.

Assuming there is you would be entitled to do BWI-ORD (stopover) ORD-HKG.

On more than one occasion I have had AA computers misprice such awards, and they've had to get the rate desk to store the fare correctly.

Thanks for the replies! I called back again, and was told the same thing - this time the reason is because of no published fare from BWI-HKG. Then I plug BWI-HKG on aa.com (and checked on Expert Flyer), and it shows me published fares! Maybe I'll try one more time...

Sure looks to be published fares BWI-HKG, and with allowable stopovers in Chicago

CX's published through fares are relevant, not AA's.

CX has at least one published BWI -> HKG through fare (SXSPCL) that would generally allow BWI -> ORD (stopover) (AA) -> HKG (CX) provided:

THE FARE COMPONENT MUST NOT BE ON
ONE OR MORE OF THE FOLLOWING
    AA FLIGHTS 0400 THROUGH 0899
    AA FLIGHTS 1700 THROUGH 2199
    AA FLIGHTS 2500 THROUGH 2574
    AA FLIGHTS 2650 THROUGH 2724
    AA FLIGHTS 3800 THROUGH 4291
    AA FLIGHTS 4370 THROUGH 5269
    AA FLIGHTS 5370 THROUGH 5599
    AA FLIGHTS 5980 THROUGH 6024
    AA FLIGHTS 6780 THROUGH 7166
    AA FLIGHTS 7171 THROUGH 7180
    AA FLIGHTS 7211 THROUGH 7238
    AA FLIGHTS 7270 THROUGH 7294
    AA FLIGHTS 7454 THROUGH 7637
    AA FLIGHTS 7861 THROUGH 7949
    AA FLIGHTS 8104 THROUGH 8373
    AA FLIGHTS 8395 THROUGH 8399
    US FLIGHTS 0001 THROUGH 0399
    US FLIGHTS 0900 THROUGH 1699
    US FLIGHTS 2200 THROUGH 2674
    US FLIGHTS 2975 THROUGH 3199
