You can achieve Diamond status by charging $40K to the Amex HHonors Surpass card in a year. Does that $40K need to spent in a single calendar year, or in any consecutive 12-month period? Thanks....
Calender year... same as qualifying by stays/nights/points. If you have a regular HH card Amex will however give credit for YTD spend on that card towards the required amount.
In fact Amex puts your year to date spending amount on each monthly invoice so you know how much more you need to spend.
If you can spend $40,000 early in the year, you will get Diamond for that year, next year and 3 months of the following year. So for example if this year (2011) you hit $40,000 spending by April 30th, you wil get Diamond after your monthly invoice closes, and it will be applied to your account through March 31, 2012. A lot of people who can run large spends throug their cards usually spend $40,000 on their Surpass and then they can put it away for 2 years (or even downgrade to regular one w/o a fee) as they don't need to spend again on it till Q1 of 2013. Of course, that assumes that you can spend that much money that quickly to utilize this strategy. Cheers, PedroNY
Actually if you qualify for Diamond in 2011 by Surpass various members (including myself) have found you get 2 years of status... so your card will show an expiration of 3/2014
