The Middle East is now one of the hottest markets for aviation, from the newest planes, some of the best airports in the world to people who love to fly on a regular basis. A great combination. I love also the idea that many carriers incl. Qatar Airways invest into new planes and keep their fleets young and dynamic while still offering tremendous value and comfort.

Indeed! It's great to see the Middle Eastern carriers get better recognition as one of the top airlines in the industry. To be honest, I never knew much about Qatar and Etihad until quite recently.

All both are very good carriers with different strength // value ratios. Having flown with both eg. Qatar from London to Tokyo and Etihad from Dublin to Abu Dhabi and Bangkok, all two carriers are pretty good. Qatar offers very good food offerings, while Etihad was stronger on service. Overall, a pleasant experience with a very good value ratio. Will consider them in the future again.

Which carrier did you prefer overall? Also, which class did you fly in?

I believe there is a good level playing field out there eg. see Emirates, which has given Boeing their single largest order in history!:)

Etihad has the upper hand against Qatar, because overall the service and ambiance incl. food and drink was a great package, but it is more costly than Qatar which offers excellent food // drink offerings, but here the service was not particular warm towards us nor memorable for the right reasons. We have flown Economy only on both carriers so far. They offer all two superior leg room, great design features, excellent IFE, and the value ratio was one of the best encountered so far.
