Here is an interesting article from crikey.

Is Alan Joyce just trying to avoid voluntary redundancy payments? It is a shame to see the path that Qantas is taking, is it just a sign of the times or can we just blame Joyce? Before long Qantas is just going to be another mediocre airline. How the mighty have fallen :(. Just my 2c.

The Rise and Rise of Jetstar? RyanAir Redux? Or, is it the Race To The Bottom?

Either way ... meh ... I've seen that one and didn't like it the first time around.

    From a US angle...this sounds like outsourcing...with a twist.....

I'm confused at the negative spin on a company with an uncertain future facilitating existing employees seeking work elsewhere. It sounds like a responsible thing to do that benefits both Qantas and its pilots.

Qantas is expected to make a profit of over $500 million dollars this year. I thought the future was looking quite good.

The article you quoted certainly suggests otherwise...anticipated job cuts, untenable balance sheets...
