    http://www.wsws.org/articles/2011/aug2011/qant-a01.shtml

Qantas CEO Alan Joyce declared at last week’s 2011 Aviation Outlook Summit that the Australian airline’s restructuring strategy—which he had previously described as “ruthless”—would be completed by August 24. His provocative speech was delivered just after Qantas pilots voted overwhelmingly in support of industrial action over enterprise bargaining agreement (EBA) claims.

The Australian and International Pilots Association (AIPA) and three other unions—the Australian Licensed Aircraft Engineers Association (ALAEA), the Transport Workers Union (TWU) and the National Union of Workers (NUW)—want “job security” clauses in all new enterprise agreements with the carrier. These clauses would stipulate that crews employed on Qantas-badged flights or on overseas subsidiaries operating Qantas services, or ground staff contracted to undertake Qantas work, receive the same wages and entitlements as the airline’s mainline employees.

UPDATE: I have just got hold of the transcript of AJ's speech, and the word ruthless isn't used anywhere in the speech, in any context. The article quoted above is a complete load of rubbish and has zero factual basis.

    Complete, utter bollocks.

Firstly, there was a one word quote. There was nothing provided to give the use of the word ruthless appropriate context.

Secondly, if Joyce had as WSWS claim made such a statement - the rest of the Aviation press would have been all over it like flies to dung. Not a peep from anyone else on this, so makes me think even more that this is bogus.

Thirdly, I was meeting with a member of the aviation press last week over drinks, where the subject of the QF INT restructure had come up. As Australian Aviation is his beat, he's been following the story closely. He didn't mention AJ making this comment, and if it had been made as claimed it would have been the primary topic of discussion.

Fourth and finally, who are WSWS? Simply put, a union mouthpiece. Who do you think they will be doing their upmost to support by pushing out factually baseless articles like that quoted above - the pilot/engineering unions of course.

Don't believe everything you read. The unions involved are running a massive scare campaign in order to get their way on a statement of claims that will do serious harm to the carrier and their own livelihoods.

Sobore - in future, can you please cast a critical eye over any news you post. Some of the content you get is good, but pieces like that above are complete wastes of time, obviously biased to one specific opinion, and are not true representations of the subject or facts under discussion.

This is a primary purpose of Milepoint, to debunk or support news / information to help inform others. Many articles posted on this site are full of inaccuracies or outright lies. Knowledgable members in the community contribute their experience to bring clarity to what is posted. Why should we be silenced when we have an opportunity to respond to these articles and help others make sense out of them?

Then say something up front calling out and challenging the views expressed in the article, and don't blindly post an article (as you always do) without adding value or insight in the hope others will.

And why should you do this? Uggboy's post alone is why - based on quoting of an article, he came to an uninformed opinion which was without merit. The threat was never made, but he formed an opinion on that basis without any further insight or knowledge, let alone the fact the article presented was entirely untrue.

Until you start adding value to the posting of news, I will continue to see this as you trying to pad your post count. Milepoint is about quality, not quantity.

I had never heard of this site and went to check myself: World Socialist Web Site. I'd expect a site with that title to have a definitive point of view. It's not as if the OP is trying to hide anything here as it is appropriately sourced.

I've posted both management and union press pieces on TOBB and never had an issue, but they've also been appropriately sourced. I'm fine with articles of this type being posted as long as it's clear where they come from so the member can decide on their own what value they have.

Please inform me of when you were empowered to make the posting rules on Milepoint. I do not remember seeing the notice.
I’m not sure why you feel it appropriate to tell me how to post on Milepoint, who put you in this role?
I feel Uggboy is entitled to post what he feels or come to any opinion he would like, sorry you are not happy with that.
Accusing me of post padding is absurd, it is much easier to ‘pad posts’ in the game threads without the work or bother of posting news / information.
