Qantas flight struck by lightning

    It's not that rare nor that dangerous.

    A UA 742 I was on was hit twice (the first woke me, so I saw
    the second). We landed in Chicago and had to sit around for
    a while until the storms moved off and it was safe for the
    ground crew to come out. I transferred to a UA 752 and -
    still slightly shaken - remarked to the FA that this had
    happened, and I'd like a drink. She replied that the aircraft
    had come in from SMF, and it too had been hit twice on
    that flight. (I presume that the plane had been investigated
    and no damage found.)

    I've only had that happen once on a UA flight LAX-SFO that was due to continue onto SEA. UA took the plane out of service.
