As you may know, you get a free night when you get approved for the card. I noticed mine expires 6 months from the date of issuance. I called them up to see if I could get it pushed back and they said they could do it, but once you push it back, you only get another 6 more months to use it so I am better off waiting until I get closer to the free night's expiration date. I forgot to ask if I could keep calling back every 6 months to push it back another 6 months.

Just thought I'd share in case any of you thought using the night within 6 months was a bit unrealistic/unfair.

My wife needs to do that for her free night also.
Who did you call? Chase or Marriott Rewards customer service?

You need to call Marriott. Some people have reported having problems getting their date extended, so I would not assume they will extend.

The number given to me by the Marriott Rewards rep was 801-468-4000.

I would start there. Good luck!

Yes, good luck. I'm a plat, and they would not move any of the ones I received this year. Several expire in Feb 2014, and I just had to use them or lose them they said. Maybe it all depends on who you get on the phone.

In 2011 and 2012, I needed extra time. Never had a problem (I'm a Plat, so YMMV).
