This thread is for feedback regarding posts to Your Profile Page where you can "Update your status..."

This is different than your Chat status, your MilePoint earned status, etc.

    Error #1 that I encountered:

Why the 140-character limit? Is this intended to tie into Twitter? I'm not considering this a bug.

After encountering that error, I shortened my post and tried to submit again. I got this error #2:
Why should I have to wait to retry after my first error? This seems like a bug to me.

I found the status history odd - actually went and deleted previous status entries. I see no value in the history personally.

Well, I was and am confused about the status part in "Update your status."

Although I did get it's not MP Status nor chat status, I am not sure what status it means. Is it the elite status w/ FFPs? Maybe so.

If you click on someones handle you will see in their information that pops up their status... for instance if you set status I would see if right below New Taipei City.

    I see. Thanks!

It seems more like an online "mood status" in your own words, i.e, what you want others to know about your "current" status. ;)

I'm guessing that both here and twitter it is related to keeping things "byte sized".

144 bytes perhaps, allowing for a 4 byte header?

I'm not sure where you're getting 144 from. And from the following articles, I'm not really understanding why Twitter's limit is still based on SMS today.

I probably don't understand because I'm one of those people who refuses to pay the ripoff monthly fee for unlimited texting.

So after having someone post to my Profile, I understand the concept here a little better. It's basically MP's equivalent to posting to someone's Wall on Facebook.

I can post to my Profile. Others can read and post to my Profile, if I allow them. I and others can comment on posts on my Profile.

Twitter's 140 characters is to allow for SMS (including identifying info).

Perhaps MP status is set to 140 to allow auto-tweet for those who add their twitter name to their profile?

...except that MP's user status has the (pesky) 140-character limit.

BBCode is not functional on Profile Posts. I can add [b] tags around something, but it won't make it bold.

You can delete posts that you created on your profile as well as posts that others created on your profile.

I have a concern about the Profile Post functionality: will it be a risk point for spam from new, unwanted enrollees?

You have choices in your privacy settings for profile posts:

View your details on your profile page:
    All visitors
    Members only
    People you follow only
Post messages on your profile page:
    All visitors
    Members only
    People you follow only
    ------------------------------------------------------------
Hey this is interesting, I copied the "Post messages on your profile page: text and when I pasted it here, it came with the dropdown box. In my edit window it showed as the box itself, when I posted it listed the text content as you see here:
    • All Visitors Members Only People You Follow Only

And I already have mine set for "Members only."

So now if a bot gets signed up as a member, can't it immediately start posting spam to everyone's Profile Page?

What should be the defaults for new members? While members can go through these settings on their own at any time, could they be walked through all this automatically after registration?
