Priority Club probably became the first chain to award its highest status just for holding a credit card. I got a mailer today announcing that Priority Club Platinum status is a newly added perk of having the Chase Priority Club Visa.

This proves that PC consider their Plat status to be useless

Useless indeed!:( It's all about consistency and this is the area PC is at its weakest!:(

Some hotels can be really good in their treatment to PC members at all levels, but I would prefer to have some tangible benefits with them each time we stay with them eg. lounge access, better rooms, free internet, welcome amenties, free drinks, of course the higher the status the better the options! This must be however written somewhere, these should be brand standards for each status category [ and individual IHG brand ] at PC, sadly this is not the case!:(

That's why we prefer Hilton, Starwood and as another back up Hyatt!:)

If I can verify this, then I'm on board with getting the Chase card. Any link?

The 60,000 (or 80,000) points you get with using the card makes you platinum for the current year and the next year.

I had applied for the card last year. (Today is my application anniversary). Will scan and attach the mailer tomorrow. The mailer clearly said, Platinum status is a new perk of the card.

No, the mailer stated how the Platinum status will help me earn 5 extra points per dollar. So it is definitely the Platinum status

So if you already have the card, maybe it's what Miles and Smiles was pointing out - that you got Platinum from the sign-up bonus.

Anyway, please tell us what you find.

Woohoo! I had the mailer when I arrived home. Now, I do not have to feel guilty about accidentally making Platinum this year on Goodwill points.

@schnitzel - the link http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/mile...-no-fee-1st-yr-priority-club-select-visa.html in the first post it the one used by my Mother, Father and sister. They all received 80,000 points.

Edited to add: the mailer says: announcing a new card member benefit: Platinum Elite Status

On the inside of the mailer it says :As a valued card member, you can enjoy Platinum Elite Status right away and keep it as long as you keep the card.

There is a thread on FT with folks saying the same thing as you. Perhaps we will all (who have the card) get this mailer eventually.................

It appears my 20 nights (123k points) that I've stayed this year means nothing. If you figure an average spend of $100/night to keep the math easy, I have overpaid significantly for Platinum Status. I just got an email from Marriot telling me they made me Gold after just staying 10 nights with them in Nov/Dec and can keep Gold through Feb 14,2014 with just 6 Stays between April 1 - June 30.

I also have PC Visa card. Last year I didn't qualify for Platinum status for this year, so as Feb. 1, my status has dropped to Gold. However, month later I've noticed that my status is "Platinum" again. When I looked at my account, I've noticed a record "Select Platinum upgrade 0 pts". Maybe, it is related to the fact that I have a PC Visa?

BTW, I do really like how I am treated at PC properties, even at HIE. I always receive a welcoming gift, and once staying in Hiliday Inn Vacation Club I got a bottle of wine because I was a Platinum. Maybe for some people it doesn't matter, but I did like it.

    Benefits of PC elite levels:
I don't see breakfast, access to lounge, and the room upgrades are subject to availability ... reports we have read about room upgrades were not too promising while suite upgrades are non-existent!

I have received upgrades or some sort of special treatment (a free mini-frig one time, free breakfast on one stay) on more than 1/2 of my stays as a Platinum. I never ask for upgrades, they are given to me by the hotels' initiative. I did ask for a frig, but did not expect to be given it for free.
Also I used my Platinum status to gain status at BW, Choice and Club Carlson, which has led to more points and some upgrades with those chains.
And I haven't had a paid stay at a PC hotel in about 1 and 1/2 years. I've just been using my points for free stays.
So, my experience is that PC is very, very generous.

Sounds like you stay at generous properties.

The lack of significant published benefits and the segregation of Intercontinentals (plus lack of official benefits there on award stays) really kills priority club for me.

I am sure you meant to say you were comped for items found in room mini frig/bar ... and not take the whole frig home! ;)

my issue is trying to find a PC property that actually has a room that is worthy of being called an upgrade.

As a GOLD I was given a room that smelled like stale cigarettes and cheap booze. One of the few times they recognized my status.
