The Painted Ladies in San Francisco gained international superstardom from their appearance in over 70 movies, TV programs, and ads, most notably in the opening credits of the famed TV sitcom Full House. Built between 1892 and 1896 by developer Matthew Kavanaugh, the Victorian houses are characterized by three or more colors that accentuate their architectural embellishments. Not surprisingly, this block of Steiner Street is one of the most photographed residential blocks in the United States. Across the street, enjoy a picnic up on lovely (albeit windy) Alamo Square while taking in the view of the modern skyscrapers rising up behind the turn-of-the-century homes.

    I never realized that they were built before the 1906 earthquake. They made it through!
