Prestigious (and Puzzling) Turner Prize 2011 Shortlist Announced

A pink plastic bag resembling a pig in a blanket, a modern ping pong table, images of male body parts projected on a screen and dull scenes from a council estate are up for the prestigious Turner Prize 2011. Regarded at Europe’s leading achievement in contemporary art, the Turner Prize is awarded to a ‘British artist under the age of 50 for outstanding presentation of their work in the twelve preceding months’. The prize was created in 1984 to promote discussion… and that it does. It leaves us scratching our heads in confusion too.

    Formers winners include Anish Kapoor, Damien Hirst and Steve McQueen. Work by the shortlisted candidates will be displayed in Gateshead at the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, from 21 October 2011. The winner will be announced on 5 December 2011.​
