its very easy to end it and that Congressman got it wrong, its not by stopping the Minting of any further coins, But by stopping the printing of any more $1 bills!

there is no 1 or 2 Euro Bills they are both coins, there isnt any 1 or 2 GBP (pound notes) they too are coins and the same is the case to our North with Canada. If they stopped printing the $1 bill then in no time the $1 coins will be in demand by all the businesses and Unfortunately for us the Mint wont need us any longer either.

So its simply another case of the Drunken sailors down in DC doing what they do best Messing things up

There are so many aspect to this that are totally laughable.

This guy from the mint, Tom Jurkowsky dumpin on the mileage junkies buying coins. If it wasn't for us you would be out of a job cuz who in their right mind would ever buy coins if it wasn't for us. It was like the $1 coin program was designed for us. Now Tom you may be out of a job.

If the mint stopped minting coins today why would that end the program. We buy them the banks keep them for a month or 2 and send them back to the mint and repeat. For all we know they did stop minting coins....maybe that is the reason for the backlog?

The press is joking themselves with stories like this. Lets talk about some real frivolous government spending...ever hear of this one: http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2007/feb/08/usa.iraq1

The article talks about the Fed warehousing the coins - that's because that's where the circulated coins are sent, not back to the mint.

Speier writes, "...making all these coins that no one wants."

I come across people all the time who are excited when I give them $1 coins.

I went through a drive though yesterday and the teenager working the window seemed confused but then the other employee saw them and got pretty excited about it, saying that she wanted to buy them out of the register.
