I'd recommend that there be a sub-forum for premium fares which would allow for per-fare threads. It would make it much easier to focus in on the fares relevant to your {alliance, city, etc}.

    Thoughts?

I agree with this. Some of us focus on premium fares.

Count me as one who'd like to have a sub-forum with individual threads. The mega threads are hard to stay on top of.

Does search over here handle airport codes?

Unsure, but what does that have to do with wanting a sub-forum for premium fares?

The better search is the less of a problem having few threads vs 1 for each deal.

True, but I still feel a sub-forum would make it the easiest to follow.

Would one sub-forum for all premium fares be ideal, or would it be better to have a sub-forum for premium fares within each alliance's MR fares forum?

As long as it sticks to the alliance level, I think sub-forum within the alliance is the best option. Otherwise it will get too confusing to figure out where you should look/post.

My only concern is... are the majority of the people looking for premium fares alliance specific, or are they just looking for the best business/first tickets on any carrier?

I look for fares on a specific alliance, but I don't know for sure that I'm in the majority.

I look at all alliances and non-alliance airlines.
If uzbek airlines (for example) had a mistake fare of $1 in business I'd still consider it.

I'm primarily interested in one alliance, but just like kiwi would definately want to take advantage of a super mistake fare (or even just a really great deal).

Let's assume that if fares get too popular, they are eliminated. This has been my observation.

Take a look at the Trick-it thread. It is burried within the MR forum, in the discussion sub forum. This has accomplished a few things.

It has kept things relatively low key, and fares posted there are not only harder to find, but last longer.
It has provided those interested ONE thread to refer to. Because it's not many new threads, it is EASIER to follow and not miss a good one.

The problem isn't organization, it's allowing the deals to be accessed in a way that allows them to survive. I assume everyone would appreciate that.

I vote for a discreet method that allows both exposure and longevity to the fares.

While I understand your point, I think that the trick-it thread is a poor example. The trick-it thread is a mess of information, but it all related back to fuel dumps. With the exception of mistake fares, most of the fares in the MR forum are just great deals with creative routing. Furthermore, they are all in separate threads - just as they would be here in a sub-forum.

The benefit of the sub-forums is that if you only fly Oneworld, you don't have to scan through all the UA fares just to find a good AA fare.

I'm all for keeping fares around as long as possible, but not at the cost of obscuring the information. I don't think that we want to see the MR Fares forum look anything like the trick-it thread.

How come this doesn't surprise me :)

I like the idea of being more specific to the alliance, but you have to allow for those newbies (and those that just don't know) which alliance is associated with the particular deal being posted.

To keep the fare around a bit longer, all you would have to do is require log in to see the relevant threads. That way a search engine wouldn't catch it. You could also tell the search engine the same in a meta construct.

That won't keep airline employees out who would kill the fare (if it's a mistake fare). But it's a start. Unfortunately, on FT, this sort of restriction is impossible to get past the neanderthal group called the Talk Board, which was initially a good idea but now has morphed into a group which exists solely to veto any meaningful experiment.

P.S. Would love to see a premium fare subforum as well.

But posting these fares is usually the kiss of death, isn't it?

Yeah, apparently it has been but the experiment of posting it in a forum that is a little harder to get to has never been tried, so no one knows if that would work decently or not.

  24. For so called error fares, it needs to be a forum for 'identified' members only - so that the deal would not immediately be ended because once it reaches too many people, incl. airline employees, it will be ended.

I also think a subforum would be good. On the "identification" bit, I always find that part tricky. By doing so, it keeps new members from contributing , and from past experience a fair bit of the great stuff does come from new members.
