Just got back from a same-day trip from SEA to visit the folks in SFO. Sadly, I missed an upgrade at the gate (#2 on the list, 1 seat left, they call #1's name 5 times and finally he shows up as seating area 2 is boarding... :(). But then when I board to take my original E+ seat, they're passing out juice and water to E+ after finishing with F. Is this a new perk meant to somewhat compensate for removing snacks? Is it something specific to certain aircraft (this was a 757, which is almost more surprising since they have more pax to deal with). I did not see the same service on the way back, but the return was packed.

I've seen them do this before when there are extra beverages that the F cabin doesn't want.

It seems like a big jump from 3 extra drinks to serving all of E+, but okay. I guess it was just a first for me.

I guess it could have just been a really nice FA. [IMG]

Was the upgrade standby list very long? Perhaps E+ was mostly populated with elites and buy-ups, so they decided to do something customer-friendly. Or maybe this is just one of the changes that Jeff Smisek "knows we're going to like." [IMG]

I've never experienced any pre-departure service in E+.

I've been served a PDB when sitting in 8D on a UA 757, right by the mid-cabin galley where the drinks are poured. I know SEA_Tigger on FT has reported that he's batting 1000 for receiving PDBs in seat 8D as well.

That said I've never seen them serve all of E+. No way they could have that many extras poured.

I have seen the FA's give a PDB if any are left over to the 1st one or two rows of E+, guess it's better to offer than to throw them out.

  9. i personally think they should serve either all or none of E+.

Hmm, I was fairly far forward on a 757. So maybe it was just the first few rows. To be honest I didn't look behind me. But I agree with Almond, it should be all or none. I didn't even consider that it only the first few rows got a beverage.

I agree with you, it's a nice gesture but it should be all or nothing, why should a few be treated differently than the rest? I wonder what would happen if someone in E+ went up to an FA and asked that they also be served at PDB after seeing others in E+ being served one. Perhaps the ansewer would be the same as the TSA, "do you want to fly today"

Being 'treated differently' over a plastic cup of water or orange juice?

    Really?

I've seen it happen once or twice, usually because there were a few leftover drinks from the F cabin and the flight attendant wanted to give them out rather than trash them. It's pretty rare that you see it, but some FA do it.

Nice gesture for sure, it would be most welcome if this became the norm on the new UA

OJ or wawa...the UA way, only good for E+, need to go to CO way for F, full selection :)

In my recent experiences, the FAs have been pretty good about controling the overage. By the time they get to the last couple rows of F they pass out whatever is left on their tray and then go back for what the other people asked for. No extras.

    "Dear 1K voice -
My neighbor in E+ got a PDB but I didn't. What kind of compensation are you going to send me for this outrage!?"

    I can see it now...

Ok, lets take this one step further. You are in Business class and the FA in first is serving canapes and drinks prior to departure. she has some leftovers so walks into Business class and offers the first row or two the leftovers, she then disappears back into first. I can just here the howls from those in Business class that were not offered anything. Then complaints would be flying in, that this should not be allowed, either have enough leftovers for all or no one gets them. Guess alot in in this forum feel that its no big deal if it is just the 1 or 2 rows in E+ that are offered the leftoverr PDD, but if it was First to Bus class the howls would be loud. And by the way I have seen this happen with extra newspapers given to Business class and the few extras given to E+. Personally I don't care, it is no big deal to me, but I would bet there are many out there that would scream their head off about thinks like this.

I had FAs hand out wine from F in E+ that the F pax didn't want (no charge). That was a nice gesture.
