    Hey there knowledgeable people all.

Do you know if it's possible to do multiple 23 hour layovers on an international award?

For example, could I fly the following itinerary using American miles?

    2/1: BWI-DFW, 16:00 - 18:00

    (18 hour layover)

    2/2: DFW-HKG, 12:40 - 19:00 + 1

    (23 hour layover)

    2/4: HKG-PEK, 18:00 - 21:10

I see no reason that this wouldn't be legal, but I wanted to make sure before I based my summer 2016 plans on it. Thanks for the help!

I've done multiple 23 hour layovers on an international award using AA miles. However, all of the layovers were in international cities. I'm not sure if you would be able to do that domestically (at DFW in your case). It seems like AA stopped allowing that at the North American international gateway.

AA stopped allowing a stopover at the gateway; what the OP has described is a connection and should be fine assuming there is a published fare for BWI-PEK which allows the DFW/HKG connections.

Thanks man. Is there any way to discover whether AA has published fares between city pairs, or am I at the mercy of phone agents?

Try a dummy booking, although AA supposedly frowns on this, and see whether it's a single fare component. You can also check fare rules on EF, etc.

Dummy bookings on AA.com for CX are not possible.

True, but ITA should be able to do it. I just tried and it looks like there is a fare break at HKG. :(

To confuse the issue further I tried the OP's itinerary on EF as a connection in HKG and it came up...so it seemed to be possible although the long lay-over he mentioned didn't come up.

No .. actually I put it in as a one-way AA award BWI/DFW/HKG/PEK and a number of options came up. Most of them with a 1 or 2 hour connection in HKG.

Well thanks for helping, guys. Is it more likely to work if I use Cathay across the pacific? Like BWI-JFK-HKG-PEK?

Not sure exactly what you are trying to achieve (and what class of award). Is it the possible (23 hour) lay-over in HKG?

If not you have a number of options. When I last looked the best CX award availability to HKG seemed to be out of YYZ but if you are looking for a similar layover in NA my preference would be either
SFO or LAX particularly since I am flying from the SE.

I want the layover in Hong Kong and would like a layover in an American city too. New York, Dallas, LA, SFO ... it's all good. I want to maximize my 55,000 AA miles. And so I want to know if that's possible.

Also, now that I think about it, does AA even let you connect in Asia 2 (Hong Kong) on the way to Asia 1 (Beijing)?
