[Poll] What do we call the mods?

A lot of suggestions came up in the other thread. They won't be mods in the sense that we know that concept from may other forums, so what title do we want bestowed upon them?

This poll is totally unofficial and non-binding. The poll only allows for 10 options, so if you chose "other" please post your preferences here or in the other thread.

I like ambassadors ... tough job, dealing with good and bad, but doing a service to their country - MP!

 

Interesting that "moderator" is not on the poll, much less the list!

I like envoy......its a better term for helper.....and does not convey any overlording issues...

 

I'm okay with mods - that conveys the function to me.
2nd choice Advisor - but doesn't sound binding enough in terms of decisions.
Ambassador has some nice meanings, but feels vague.

 

I took the list from the posts in the other thread, and no one there suggested using moderator.
It could have been due to the wording, "Suggestions: How do we name the moderator?" but I believe it's due to a more global agreement that a different word is required. These new volunteers won't carry handcuffs or billy clubs (and I say that will all due respect to mods on countless other forums- they have a tough job, and many patrol tough neighborhoods).

 

Why must they even be "named"?

 

Thanks for this input. While it may seem strange, we actually have not spent much time considering this. We do know that we will be putting in place a much different system of moderation hoping to build a more consistent approach to any discipline measures, and as well really redefining what roles moderators play given their more familiar (and in some ways inaccurate) assignment as the local police. I obviously know and think they play a more important role in helping and steering members to the right answers on MilePoint. If it takes another title than Moderator to make this appear more positive, then i am all for it. So have at the poll and thank you all for the poll idea and feedback elsewhere. If we can get at least 250 votes in the poll I'll certainly consider it a voice of the members and it will likely sway us toward making a decision in this area. Again, thanks.

The last line on the poll summary indicates multiple votes are allowed ??

 

I allowed that when I set it up, for the Libra's among us who can't make up their minds.

No, you can't vote again, but when you first vote you can select more than one choice.

I thought ambassador is for another role in MP

 

I still like Storm Trooper but since it didn't make the voting list I chose moderator.

It's a commonly used term and folks coming here from other sites will more easily understand who they are and what they do.

I also think we need Ambassadors but that's another function.

 

I'm just glad there is no lickspittle option.

How about calling them employees?

The people who voluteer to assist, as opposed to police, should be called Ambassadors.

 

I don’t think any of those are doing it for me, though the suggested terms, such as "community leader" or "forum attendant" aren’t too bad. I see nothing wrong with just choosing "moderator" again, as it’s easily recognisable.

By the way, who are the current mods?

 

If you have to explain a title, then it is not descriptive of the role played on MP. The KISS principle should enter here.

 

I think for now it is just Randy, and possibly his staff. Hopefully, that is the way it will remain.

 

While I have always had a good relationship on FT with the moderators, I do agree that the very word 'moderator' has certain connotations above and beyond its denotation. I think a title that carries a more benign connotation would better suite MP, hence I went with (1) Ambassador, (2) Adviser, or (3) Facilitator. It really depends on their full role, but all three of those have a more positive construct than moderator.
