I called this morning to transfer some orphaned points (just a few hundred) to my wife's account. Both of us have the same family name, both accounts have the same address.

I was told to expect the transaction to be approved in five days' time. Just a heads up for anyone accustomed to the transfer being processed instantly or almost instantly.

Thanks for the heads up. This sounds better that what I was reading about a few months ago, when they announced it would now take closer to 30 days. It's a consideration now, unlike the quick transfers from the past, for planning a transfer well in advance of when you need the points/miles.

  3. Yes this was policy enacted a few months ago, more review to stop fraudulent transfers.(Non related, last minute address change to match trading partner etc.)

Yes -- I'd heard about that, but hadn't seen any reports on recent transfer times or requests. I'll try to remember to post again when the transfer goes through.

My recent (legitimate) transfer took exactly 5 days. I believe that the 30-day reference is to the window of time in which the account address has not been changed (?).

Edit to add: 5 calendar days.

i've had recent transfers take less then 2 days. same last name, same address. the accounts have had the same address for their lifetimes.

i'd reckon that your points post quicker then five days. if everything matches w/o red flags it goes thru faster from what i've seen/know

Transfer completed some time today, more than 24 hours but fewer than 30 hours after my request.

My transfer involved a need to fax in a copy of utility bill. The request for the supporting document on day 2 and transfer completed on day 3.

My in-laws need some SPG pts for their upcoming trip. Can I change my SPG address
to theirs and transfer some pts to their account ?

Do the last names have to match? I am asking simply because I'm thinking about using my wife's SPG account going forward with the amex and would want to transfer my points to her. We're married but different last names.

No. As long as the address is the same as yours, even people who are not related to you are considered to be in the same household.

But, the new protocols make it nearly impossible to simply change addresses to make it appear that the person you want to transfer to is in the same household, when, in fact, they are not.
