If I book a trip using AAA travel (I'm assuming it's considered basically a travel agency) do I get Hyatt Points. Or do they only give those out when booking directly through the website?

I believe the general rule is that 3rd party travel agency bookings are not qualifying for points or stay credit. The major exception being corporate travel agencies (presumably because those travelers often have no choice of booking channel and Hyatt and all the others do want to compete for those travelers' dollars).

Note: no hands-on experience with AAA travel in particular.

AAA is generally considered a traditional TA which would seem to indicate you'd get points. No guarantees, but I do know someone who booked Hyatt rooms through AAA and got credit. YMMV.

Very interesting.... I booked a stay using AA Miles using their useaamiles website and to my surprise, I got points on that stay and full recognition at Hyatt.

I have never been denied credits on a AAA rate, i think when you book via website it says it what doesn't qualify. I think 3rd party bookings, as AAA is just a code which isn't even always needed.
