I thought automatic upgrades from B and M buckets were not available for TATL and TPAC flights. But there they are on a bunch of flights between Germany and the US, when there's no RN space in some cases. Is it actually possible to upgrade with PN inventory on a TATL flight when purchasing a B fare? Is a GPU necessary?

    Thanks....

The Y/B/M upgrades are only applicable in markets that offer CPU. Just because you see PN or JN on an international flight doesn't mean you can buy a B fare an upgrade. Miles+Copay or GPU are required.

According to UA, PN means absolutely nothing on a TATL or TPAC itinerary. Quite often a number of PN seats show up while RN shows 0. That means no instrument upgrades either. So why is a positive value shown for PN?
