I recently spent a week with a different kind of travel technology, albeit one that, similar to laptops and tablets and smartphones, plugs into a standard outlet to recharge, namely the Toyota Prius PHV.

The plug-in Prius, as it is known, will be available for the 2012 model year and Toyota is running a field test of early production models now. I was able to reach the promised 13 miles on battery and, for short trips, could hit 93 mpg.

My complete review is online here.

I rented a Prius 2 years ago and liked it. What can you tell me about the back window? I found it annoying. Has this changed?
I'm about to dump my 2002 VW Passat, and am considering a Prius or Camry. No more Passats or Volvos for me. They're not reliable!

Do you mean beyond what I wrote in the review? I thought what I wrote was pretty graphic actually.

Agreed. On the one I drive it took a good bit of getting used to.

    :)

P.S. I was glad to see (from your note) that I was not the only one who had an issue with this.

We got the 2004 Prius back in late 2003. It really didn't take very long to get used to the rear window. We put 100k+ miles on the car, then sold it to get the 2010 model.
