got a lot of miles racked up after last years harvest, and now need suggestions on a warm, tropical place to go in May....any suggestions? I would love to go to Mauritius, or the Seychelles, but cannot figure out the best route to take there....SkyTeam or Star Alliance?

My wife and I both have 180K and 145K Membership Reward pts, respectively, and 50K SPG pts. She is gold status.

I was thinking of throwing them into SkyPeso's and redeeming them on Air France perhaps, but the Seychelles is only serviced by Kenya Airways, and the timetable is a bit sucky. If that doesnt work, perhaps the Seychelles...but of course, never been there so cant really vouch for any of the beaches. ...

    Any ideas? Thanks

Currently, AMEX has 50% bonus transfers to BA Avios. You need 220K Avios per person for a Business award from the US to Mauritius so ~150K AMEX MR points need to be transferred per person.

There is also a 50% bonus transfer to SPG but it is a 2:1 ratio which means your leftover 25K MR points will be 12.5 SPG points. Not the greatest transfer as you can see.

I didnt think I could go with BA to Mauritius....any particular routing you can suggest? THere is also the hefty fuel surchages.....perhaps on AA to LHR and then to Mauritius?

Between CW and AA Biz, depending on how much the cost is I'd be willing to pay for BA's product but everyone is different. :) According to your MP profile, you're based in PDX so you would need to get an AS award to SFO or DFW which has BA service. If you want to go with AA Biz, you'd need to do a one-stop connection to get to other airports like LAX, ORD, JFK, MIA, DFW which all have AA flights to LHR. From LHR, you'd take a non-stop flight to Mauritius if there is availability.

well..time to fire up the ol' KVS and check! Thanks for your suggestion!....and also, since AS is a BA partner, I could get to my gateway city by using some extra AVIOS pts...no?

    Just a couple of thoughts.

I've looked into MRU in May and read a lot of mixed reviews re the weather - beginning of winter, rainy at times, etc. But it didn't matter in the end because I searched and searched for BA business redemption seats, and found bupkis; I certainly wouldn't want to do that trip in BA Y, but YMMV. Note too that BA now serves MRU from LGW, not LHR, so you'd need to factor in the cost and hassle of a cross-London connection as well.

Myself, I'd look west instead of east. Fiji is gorgeous in May, and a lot closer to the west coast than MRU or SEZ. I'm sure there are okay mechanisms to get your points transferred to a useable carrier.

I wouldn't know that too well since I don't deal with BA miles that much :(

I would rather go to Fiji as well :) Considered Male until I watched a video on the political unrest in that country for a school assignment. Yes I know the country is comprised of many islands so it might not affect one's stay there. :)

I'd like to go to MLE also, but availability there is tuff and I havent researched enuff to find a resort I can afford. I see availability on DL from PDX-JFK-CDG, which I was going to do a stop over...but now i need to find CDG-MRU. I wanted to fly AF across the pond, but AF flights are not coming up on KVS....

You can see AF Award Availability via the [Awards/SkyTeam] Method in the KVS Tool, however DL SM is currently experiencing issues with booking C Awards on AF:

    [KVS Availability Tool 6.9.8/Diamond - Amadeus: Awards/SkyTeam/FR-AF]

Thanks KVS!!.I upgraded mine to 6.9.8 and now I can view them. So does that mean those showing as "CX0" have no seats available or do I need to call to find out, since you mentioned SM is having problems booking C awards..?

The [Awards/SkyTeam] Method in the KVS Tool is not affected by the issues at DL SM, so if it is showing CX0, then there are no C Award Seats currently available.
