Yep, Marriott is dumb. They've already issued a formal apology. http://news.yahoo.com/9-11-fails-never-forget-185206681.html
Lots of fails today.
Can't wait to see what they conjure up for the holocaust.
They probably just warm the muffins in the oven and add a side of smoked kosher beef.
"We apologize and understand why some people may have misunderstood the intent of the offer," Marriott Hotels said in a statement.
Ahh... so it's my fault for misunderstanding the intent, I guess.
Wow, that's a disgusting way to put an apology. Not that I stayed in Marriott's before but that definitely doesn't make me want to go there.
Perhaps we shouldn't be surprised...every holiday or special occasion in the USA eventually gets commericialized...after all, we have Veteran's Day sales, and we all know what happens around Christmas...seems to me that we're just seeing the beginnings of that in promotions in response to 9/11...
Wow! Talk about EPIC fails...
Yes, at least they clearly stated "we apologize". Some places I saw reported on yesterday, all they said was they were sorry for the wrong intent or being misunderstand - never "we are sorry". Subtle, but different, in my book.
They are sorry/apologize that some misunderstood it, not that they did it in the first place. That's how I read the "apology".
Tragedy + Time = less reaction/emotion, even humor. This equation is different for everyone.
I get upset/stressed anytime I see pics of the Towers getting struck or collapsing, I'm sure my reaction is as strong as someone who was old enough to remember Pearl Harbor.
Yet I don't have a strong reaction to Pearl Harbor and I can't expect young ones to have the same reaction I do to 9/11.
The duration of the "memorial" was pretty sorry, too! Did they have someone standing at the table with a stopwatch?
I think the timing was meant to approximate the times the two planes hit: around 8:45 and again a little after 9. I guess they figured it would be too weird to offer it only for 24 minutes though, so they rounded to the half hour. There were already so many things wrong with the entire concept, scheduling it for when they did and for just a half hour just adds to weirdness. And I bet they thought they were being clever timing it like that!
And I bet they were drunk (or something) when the idea sounded clever. (would put a smiley here, but it just doesn't feel right when talking about 9/11)
