If you, like me, would prefer the contributions you made/pledged during the OWMD to go to any of the other 3 charities supported during OWMD (LIVESTRONG, Hands on Education (chosen by Hyatt), or MP’s Kiva Team), please indicate such below.

As I wrote before, I’m happy to fly in anywhere to help the organizers go through the accountings to make this happen.

I would like my contributions ($250 between water evac drill and raffle tickets bought for cash) to go towards Hands on Eduction.

To make life a little easier, please try to detail the total you believe you pledged/paid for, and how it was broken down.

Any idea what your total was and for what, just to give the organizers some help? I realize that any pledges made during the SEA delay may not be in your memory for reasons.... ;)

Yeah, I have to go over the receipts. There seemed to be a lot of bidding while I was imbibing.

+1, please also send my contributions to Hands On Education.

    $100 + $20 - Raffle (CC)
    $100 - Raffle (Cash)
$350 - Boeing video sim slot
$400 - Hyatt Kemper suite (already going to Hands On Education?)
    $100 - Tower Tour
$150 - Randy water evac contribution

total $1120 (or $720 if the suite is already going to HOE, which I believe it is)

EDIT: If Livestrong is also a choice, I'd love for my contributions to be split equally between HOE and Livestrong. I already donate directly to Kiva.

Although I sympathize with the sentiment here, I'm not interested in trying to redirect funds after the fact. Komen was not my favorite charity even before today's announcement, but it is the charity which AA and Megado chose to support. Should the SBME (second best megado ever, they'd better not outdo us ;)) choose to support a different charity, I will wholeheartedly support that.

Please don't take this as a put-down to the people who have asked for their funds to be redirected; that's not how I meant it to come across. Just conveying my personal opinion.

Full agreement with the slightly edited statement.

For the record, I have no moral issue with abortion and definitely none with choice.

Having said the above, SGK mission is to flight breast cancel, this is what we donated to and this has not changed. SGK made a choice, we can agree or disagree with that choice; as long as the money donated is still directed towards fighting breast cancer, I believe that the moral and practical high road is to keep supporting the organization and keep working with-in the organization.

    +1

For the record, I was/am somewhat uncomfortable with charitable organizations distributing money to other organizations whose main mission is not the same as the original charity. In this light, my view of these events might be tinted.

Komen donates money to PP to fund low-cost early detection efforts to fight breast cancer, so the money is (was) going directly to support the ostensible purpose of the charity. In fact, Komen is (to the best of my knowledge) purely a fund-raising organization and all the funds they raise (above costs) are distributed in this way — they have no programs themselves that consume funds.

My point wasn't that the money wasn't used to fight breast cancer, I believe it was.

My point was/is that as soon as you give the money to an organization whose main purpose is different I have a concern. Most of the times this is a theoretical concern and no more, in some cases it is more than that as this case shows. Bottom line for me if I donate money to fight breast cancer and it is used to fight breast cancer, then I'm happy. Setting the bar much higher than that for someone like me, who believes that a large number of choices are legitimate even if I disagree with them, having a litmus test of "agree with me or else" will put me in a position of being the same as people that dictate me what is right and what is wrong.

Again, if people want to stop donating to SGK, that is a legitimate choice; I just want to point out that the fight against breast cancer will be the loser :(

I agree completely with this post. While I'm disappointed in Komen after today's decision, if money has already been pledged to them then I don't want to see it go to another purpose. Very few charities are completely apolitical - as an example, the Lance Armstrong Foundation spent money lobbying for the 2010 health care reform bill (which I personally support, but I know that others might disagree). I had never heard of Hands on Education before (and can't find them on Charity Navigator) so I don't have an opinion there.

Whatever the organizers decide, though, I know that well-intentioned and generous people donated a lot during the MegaDO and the world will be a better place as a result. That's enough for me.

Please direct my raffle ticket funds to the other 3 charities. Thank you.

While I respect everybody's opinion, I think SGK made a bad decision and I'm going to show that by withdrawing my support for them. I will still support breast cancer research etc, just not via SGK.

IMO, it's too little, too late. But, I'm okay with my donations going to SGK given this news, especially since it reduces some logistical challenges for the organizers.
