There is a very old thread from February that is now in the Archive where I can't post, but since no changes have yet been made I'm starting a new thread. Maybe the old thread can be reactivated and merged.

I just don't get the difference between "Destination Travel" and "Local Point", and from the random postings I'm seeing, it's pretty clear that others don't either. The typical threads are on pretty much the same topics, and neither place has nearly the number of subgroups needed to adequately cover the conversations. No VEGAS thread in either place? Just a few random subgroups in Destination Travel.

Are there plans underway to overhaul these 2 areas? For starters, I'd recommend either combining them or clarifying their different purposes.

Agreed, they could use some major re-positioning and clarification/definition. I seem to recall Randy saying, in one of the threads about the photo threads, that none of that will happen before Apr. 1; they want to see how things develop, as well as focusing their attention and coding on other aspects.

maybe nothing can be done before then, but in the meantime there are a few of us trying to fill out content areas. I personally find it perplexing and frustrating to be able only to guess how to approach given subjects. We obviously do not yet have the mass to support lots of questions, but we do have a number of people with specify subject matter expertise who want to begin building useful content. We desperately need a template.

In one of my fields I develop data models. We could have one and use it as a guide, even if there would remain lots fo areas to be determined. In the meantime the mishmash already is becoming hard to use, especially for newbies.

Changing quickly, no doubt. Where else would somebody who has not yet been here two weeks think of himself as NOT a newbie?

I'd like to see come models/suggestions/maps in this thread of better ways to structure those forums. We could barnstorm and maybe help guild the HOM.

That is a good idea. How should we do that. Sending messages back and forth may not be too efficient.

LocalPoint seems to be very quiet. I've been off MP for over a week (the horror) and hardly any posts in LocalPoint in all that time.

I thought I should post an update. I am studying XenForo, and trying to understand what really is possible before making recommendations to anyone. I had hoped we could have "relational posting" so that a post or thread of topical interest in multiple places might appear automatically in each relevant area.

Thus, a DL flight form ATL to CDG commented upon including experiences in each city, might appear for DL, ATL and CDG. With many database structures that is tricky to design but very easy to use. It appears nothing like that can be done here. SO, I am making some inquiries and sending a couple fo my staff off to do some work on it too.

Once I get that I'll post something here for you all to tear apart.

I have not forgotten my commitment to milepoint!

on second thought, maybe the local point structure suggests they are trying to do something more along social networking lines
