The lovely ladies of Heels First sent old Perry Platypus on a Super Top Secret mission to check out the new American Express Centurion Lounge that just opened this week at the Dallas/Ft Worth International airport. It is located in the international terminal at DFW close to gate D14 by the restaurant area and on the second level.

    Access

You can gain admittance to the lounge for free if you’re an American Express Centurion or Platinum card holder. Cardholders are allowed two guests or a spouse and children. If you do not have either of these cards you can always try the $50 trick. That’s when you hand over any other American Express card and they will charge you $50 per person. The lounge is open from 5:30 am to 10:00 pm and the desk agents can help you with travel plans as well as arrange dinning reservations.

The lounge is whopping 9000 sq. ft. and is has nice open feel letting in a lot of light surrounding windows. The décor is clean and modern with the hint of the whimsical vintage American Express showcased on the display behind the bar, book shelves, television areas and even by the flight board.

    Food and Drink

Once of the great benefits of this club is that all food and drink is included and there are no additional cost for premium beverages. Take notes other airline clubs! And get this; they have real honest to god hot food! The menu was designed by local celebrity and Food Network chef Dean Fearing. Here are a few photos of the offering at lunch today all with a southwestern flair. Everything I tried was delicious.

I also spent some time at the bar during my visit. This wouldn’t be Heels First post if it did not contain some type of adult beverage. I tried a couple of signature cocktails inspired by mixologist Jim Meehan. I ordered the Tex/Mex and the Country Club, both were excellent.

    The Exhale Spa

One of the most unique aspects of this club is that is has its own spa. American Express has partnered with Exhale Spa to provide an array of complementary services that include massages, facials and manicures. Treatments last around 15 minutes. The spa is open every day from 9am to 8pm and reservations can be made at lounge check in counter.

DFW is my home airport and although I already have an Admiral’s Club membership I can already tell that I will be spending a lot more time here instead. This lounge actually motivates me to make it to the airport extra early so I can truly relax before my flights. It is nice to see that American Express is adding more value and benefits to their products. Amex plans on opening more of these clubs in the US and I am excited for what the future might bring.
