For many years, by sheer coincidence, I left on a business trip the Monday morning following the Grammy Awards. I stood in the American Airlines first-class check-in line at LAX, surrounded by scruffy looking people trying to convince the ticket agents that electric guitars would fit in overhead storage bins and that a dog riding in a purse wouldn't be a problem during the flight.

These people were all lugging more baggage than my wife takes, and she's on the luggage handler's 10 most wanted list. So, every time an agent called someone to the counter, all of the others in line would have to shuffle all of their luggage forward a couple of feet. This is no easy task when you're either hung over or still drunk from a Grammy party.

Eventually I'd get my boarding pass and head up the escalator to the security lines. At this point I'd be stuck behind all the same people now trying to cram all their belongings through the X-ray machine. And, every year, at least one person would utter the classic plea: "Don't you know who I am?"
