At BUR this morning, as I was going through TSA security, they had a gentleman pulled aside and were giving him the wonderful two-handed rub down. He looked a little annoyed, but cooperating nonetheless. After his free groping by TSA, he walked over to the GA and was moved to the front of the line and then off to the side. He was boarded first without being in F or an Elite member of the airline and seated in 7D - with a clear view of F and the cockpit entrance. Obviously, this gentleman was an Air Marshall. Why on Earth would the TSA be patting down an Air Marshall?

I am all for the TSA thoroughly screening politicians, so they understand what they are imposing on the rest of us.

But it's kind of pointless to screen the Air Marshall since he's presumably carrying a gun through the TSA checkpoint.

Oh, real security theater where the TSOs are aspiring actors waiting for a better gig!

Having politicians go through TSA screening o let them know what is happening in the real world sounds nice, but really is worthless. No politician is ever going to really make any changes. They are all scared to do anything in case, one day, something actually happens. There is no political upside to their trying to stop invasive searches. The same logic (or illogical thinking) applies to screening equipment. How many different screening devices has TSA bought and since 9/11? I just flew this weekend and mentioned to a TSA supervisor that I thought the new xray machine were close to worthless since they did not detect explosives. I suggested the TSA do a Google search to find out the facts and truth. The reply was I was told I was wrong and was being be belligerent

Maybe... But speaking of worthless... What did you expect to accomplish with that conversation with the TSA supervisor? :)

Everyone knows you can't "logicize" the TSA.... Although it really improves my Monday morning when people try to :D

An air marshall in 7D?. What ever happened to First Class for Air Marshalls? The pax in question might have just had surgery (knee or hip implant) and was escorted to wonderful 7D so he could be positioned comfortably.

No way on God's green earth was this person a FAM (or any other LEO flying armed) as FAM's and LEO's flying armed do not go thru the same security entrance (i.e. the line, i/d check, WTMD and/or NoS) that us peons go thru. They either enter thru the exit after checking in with the TSO keeping watch over the exit or they use a separate door reserved for them and a few others to gain access to the secure area of the terminal.

there was a recent announcement about Air Marshalls being moved out of F. 7D gives an unobstructed view of F all the way to the cockpit door on an MD80

For quite awhile, Air Marshals have been sitting in other cabins. They are not sitting exclusively in non-F cabins, but I have seen FAMs WAY in the back of the bus on Trans-Oceanic flights for several years.

Any possibility of finding it as I'd love to read it and then send it to a FAM I know as he loves to bust my chops every time I tell him one of his cronies FAM'd me ;)

On most TATL's & TPACS, you'll have anywhere between 4 & 6 (depending on the risk ) and they will be split among the cabins with someone drawing the short straw and sitting in the village (and the FAM I noted above, won the short straw and asked me about good seats in the back so I educated him about seatguru and seatexpert)

I think it may have been a TV newscast and possibly the airlines complaining about the FAMs taking up their F seats
