Most airline tickets are non-refundable if you miss your flight, but 8 on Your Side discovered one fee you can get back. If your flight gets canceled or you fail to go through airport security, you could get a refund from the Transportation Security Administration.

Every airline ticket includes a TSA fee called the September 11th fee. That fee is refundable, if you cancel a flight and your luggage never goes through security.

Money collected from the fee goes to the TSA. The airlines do not receive money from the fees.
The fee is small, $10, but if a family of four cancels a flight, the family could get $40 back from the TSA, and that's better than nothing.
