Now the proposals must pass through the European Parliament and the 27 member states too.

Long overdue. Many people have been impacted with horrendous delays in the last few years. Good to see some possible justice.

Let's only hope the proposals will become a reality for passengers within the next two years.

Yes, then I can sneak in my 40 inch seat pitch minimum.

Agent: Hello, thank you for calling Total Bastard Airlines, what can I do for you?
Me: I noticed there is a typo in a ticket i booked two months ago. My name is misspelled.
Agent: Sure, under new EU law we can fix that for you. What's the ticket locator?
    Me: FUTBA1
Agent: Ah, here it is... A one way flight from Gatwick to Vladivostok in January. Are you the ticketed passenger, Mr. Smith?
    Me: Yes, that's right.
Agent: Seems the name is spelled correctly: S-M-I-T-H ?!
Me: Oh no, that's the wrong spelling, It's spelled B-L-A-R-F-E-N-G-A-R
    Agent: oh. Really?
Me: yes, B-L-A-R-F-E-N-G-A-R. It's often misspelled, unfortunately.
Agent: okay, Mr. Blar.. eh... Smith, I have fixed that for you. Anything else I can do for you?

This will be great! It will, I predict, put BA into a loss position for some time. They've flatly refused to change their misspellings for me twice, and flatly refused to rebook me when they had no alternates several times. Somehow they'll figure out a way to avoid complying. Sorry to be cynical.

Overall, the rights of passengers remains a serious matter, it's no joke and can now take up to 2 years to be approved by the EU and all 27 member states. It's long overdue that passengers enjoy some "real" rights in the future who are "really" helpful. While airlines don't want them, many passengers who face problems need them. So, I hope they get approved soon and the regulations will be implemented in a meaningful way.

Yes but as I recall, they are also increasing the amount of time you can be delayed before getting compensation.

Yes, and that's bad news but when the EU is involved it's only to be expected that some things will be bad.

It looks like there will be a ban on "no show policy".
