Survey suggests most people are against the introduction of mobile phones on planes

Research by the flight price comparison website
Skyscanner has revealed that the overwhelming majority of passengers do not want the use of mobile phones permitted on planes.
86 percent of respondents thought that the drawbacks of listening to other people’s conversations outweigh the benefits of making a call at 30,000 feet.
Earlier this month, Virgin Atlantic became the first British airline to permit calls on some of its flights.

It drives me crazy to hear face-to-face conversations by some people sitting behind me. People in normal, to themselves tones are great, but inevitably there will be people who will be yelling, and I mean YELLING, into their phones.

A riptide effect of these things will be topics such as "hey, guess how much I paid for this first class seat" type conversations. That will also make things very uncomfortable.

Guess what? Passengers don’t want in-flight mobile calls made by other passengers.

Hearing other people's one sided conversations is bad enough when you are walking around the grocery store, but to be strapped into a seat within earshot of one (or more) is just torture!

Maybe we need a no-phones section just like the no-smoking section in the old days. I would sit there so I can nap.

Awareness is key I think. For example, if the airlines rolled a pre-boarding video, a scenario with all the passengers depositing their phones into a box on the way onto the plane and having a wonderful flight then getting their phones back on the way off the plane.

My plan is to deposit my old LG phone into the box on departure, and retrieve my new Galaxy S3 from the box on arrival! :p

I can already hear loud ringtones sounding in the middle of a night flight when passengers are trying to sleep !!!
