Wow...that seems like getting off easy given the offense.
I don't know if it would have done any good but I personally am of the belief that even if a court decides to let off an offender "easy", there should be some sort of 'guilty' verdict to start the paper trail on an idiot like this so that the next time they screw up (likely), the current court can go back and see that it wasn't the moron's first time being in trouble.
For instance, person is found guilty of assault, I have no problems with a light fine but make probation period 10 years instead of the usual 6 months. If the person truly made that one time bad judgement error, then the light fine & probation served it's purpose, but if the person is a moron & repeat offender, then they get nailed if they screw up again.
I guess they figured he paid enough for the ticket?
I think the pax should also be required to compensate the other passengers for the inconvenience of the diversion.
If he was to be tried in the US he'd go to jail as a terrorist.
absolutely! He my think twice before consuming alcohol and prescription drugs again.
Wait until he tries to book his NEXT flight and finds out that the airline "regrets that we are unable to accept your business; you may wish to try another carrier. We don't exchange our black-list with Uzbek Air - good luck".
