MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — About 20,000 fewer people boarded planes out of Montgomery last year, and an airport official said unless those numbers change course they could eventually lead to fewer flights and less jobs.

Wonder of any of the drop is due to increases at PNS. Of course, it is still only a couple of hours to ATL from Montgomery as well.

Similar situation happened in Huntsville. People complained that a low cost carrier was not availale. Airport said there was not enough traffic/demand for a low cost carrier. People said "if you bring it, we will fly". Jet Blue brought it. We didnt fly. Jet Blue left in like a year or so.

I understand this also happened in part to the Southwest merger. Both Birmingham and Nashville have Southwest. And alot of flyers going out on their own dime drive or use a shuttle service to take them to Nashville. Its much cheaper.
