    Hello MilePoint community!

We are pleased to announce that Hyatt has signed an agreement for the development of a brand new hotel in Bangkok, the Park Hyatt Bangkok. The iconic hotel will be located in a prime location in the city’s central business district and will be scheduled to open in 2014. Park Hyatt Bangkok’s premier location within this rapidly growing international city and the spectacular design will be a standout in the Bangkok skyline. The hotel will feature 222 rooms, including 49 suites. The hotel will also feature all-day dining and specialty restaurants, a lobby lounge and specialty lounge, as well as a sky bar and restaurant with magnificent views of downtown Bangkok.

    Sincerely,

    -Nick B.

I've already posted on the TOBB, but I got to thinking. Is this a newly built property, or a remodeling of another hotel? I did a quick search of 222 room hotel in Bangkok and didn't see anything. I hope it's a newly built project, but 2 years seems quick these days.

If it opens in late 2014, that's almost three years which should be enough time to construct a building of this size in most locations. Of course, a lot would depend on how quickly the planning and permitting processes go and ultimately whether they adhere to the schedule.

Hopefully the prices will be competitive with other properties in Bangkok of the same caliber...

It's a brand new property - construction has been in progress for a while - as of Jan the foundation appears to be almost done. Project is called the Central Embassy (developed by the group that owns Central on Ploenchit road on land that was formerly the front lawn of the British Embassy).

It's fantastic to see another Asian property that isn't in China.

Excellent news! I passed the construction site earlier this month and construction had definitely started. Hope there won't be any big delays.

Oh, wow, that looks cool, Kalboz. Thanks for the pics!

And yes, awesome to have a new property come on line in a location that I actually want to visit (again). :)

What's wrong with this picture? Hint: how many of the people look Thai and how many are obvious foreigners?

A nice percentage of suites among those rooms! Hopefully Diamond members will be upgraded to suites without using confirmed upgrade instruments, and hopefully confirmed suite upgrades will book into better than a base suite ;)

    Love your optimism ;)

I find that most PHs give decent sized suites for confirmed suite upgrades, my last year has seen: the PH Tokyo with a 1200 sqft mt Fuji view Park Suite, the PH Aviara with a large 1 bedroom suite, PH DC with a large 1 bedroom with a diningroom and the PH Saigon with a large 1 bedroom as well.

Bangkok is a tough market with 4 seasons and st Regis both starting around 5000 thb, so we'll see a great opportunity to confirm upgrades at way under 200 dollars a night. Although, the St Regis gives Plats the 1150 sft Metropolitan suites free of charge and even on award stays, so like Gleff said, it would be nice to see some specialty suites in the upgrade inventory

The "average" Thai has no hope of being able to afford to shop there (or stay there). I'm originally Thai (but have been in the US for 40 years) and have stayed at the GH Erawan (and Sheraton Grande Sukumvit). The reaction that I've gotten is that it is quite unusual for a Thai guest to be primary guest (I know there are Thais that are married to "farangs" that do frequent this type of property.

In the other picture that Kalboz posted, the poor British Embassy looks totally dwarfed by the project. What's next - perhaps the US can sell the front lawn of the Ambassador's Residence for a project - it's an even bigger piece of property - location a little less prime though (across from the Conrad / Le Royal Meridien on Wireless).

Wow, wow, wow. What a fabulous looking building. Bangkok really does have an interesting selection of properties. Can't way to try the PH and the W when they open.

I love the architecture and hope that the building wears well. If the exterior materials look bad after a few years, it could be an eyesore.
