I enjoyed the "pilot" of Pan Am on ABC tonight. I especially enjoyned the opening scences at the Worldport terminal at JFK.

    Anyone else?

Loved EVERY minute of that show! Can't wait till next week. Almost liked the planes and airports as much as the stewardesses.

we have over-the-air TV, with a converter box to the TV and VCR, so it is hard to get the system to record. Tried and failed with this show; I saw it all and really enjoyed it, but Mrs. Gargoyle missed the first 20 minutes.

I'm sure it will be on the ABC site tomorrow and she can catch the first 20 minutes.

One of the shows producers is a former Pan Am FA; she used to tell younger co-workers stories of what it was like back then. Their interest and fascination with her stories germinated this series. She said in a newspaper interview that much is based on reality, including the espionage angle.

The espionage angle too me by surprise. I really like it and I'm sure that will play a big role in many people watching week after week.

I really liked the show as well! I thought it was really cool how the FAs would walk in line with the right palm facing up. If only I were born earlier... :( Too bad I never had the opportunity to experience Pan Am other than reading about it and looking at pictures of it.

We watched it again on the intertubes last night, and I was more impressed. The camera work, lighting and composition was right on target, setting the period and mood, guiding the scenes and the story. Each character is developing a clear back story, and the juxtaposition of scenes, flashbacks, etc., weaves those together coherently. They have some very good people working on this project.

I liked their attention to detail with the background to the show, however I thought the storylines and plot were rather weak. They will need to bump it up if they want to retain me as a viewer.

It appears the ratings were strong also. According to US Today Pan Am had nearly 11 million viewers Sunday night. Not too shabby.

I watched on my iPad and enjoyed it very much but all of the FAs look vaguely alike so it might require some effort to straighten out the characters in my head.

I just hope they keep it real; I've seen too many series that, after a few years, get into the trap of having to kick it up a notch each show. At a certain point (it's happing now with the Mentalist, for example) they start getting too convoluted, far fetched and over-the-top. They compete with their previous episodes, each time having to push it bigger and better.

Air travel is still sexy. Think "enhanced pat-downs", "full body scans" and "irregular operations".

Have to agree with you on that. Mentalist used to be one of our favourite shows, however now it is getting so ridiculous, you know what is going to happen every episode.

My new guilty pleasure from the new offerings this season is Revenge.

:) Unfortunately, I cannot stream ABC or pull US shows with a UK IP address. I need to look into the proxy thing. ;)
