It doesn't mention MP nor does it specify "OWMD" but this story appeared in the Report on Business section of today's Globe and Mail: These frequent fliers know how to wing it Eric Mueller’s vacation started when his plane filled with smoke. Soon, people slid down an emergency chute, inflated life vests and climbed into a raft. He loved every minute of it. Mr. Mueller was living out a fantasy at American Airlines’ flight attendant academy; 160 people paid up to $1,699 for a seat on a chartered flight and access to normally off-limits spots like Boeing’s 737 factory, American’s mission control-like centre and the cockpit of the world’s largest passenger jet. Tickets sold out in 17 minutes. These passengers can differentiate Boeing and Airbus jets by looking at their tails. They know that on even-numbered flights, meals are served first from the front left of the cabin, while on odd-numbered flights, it’s the back right. They’re also obsessed with collecting frequent flier miles at the cheapest possible cost. One tip: Prevent miles from expiring with a tiny online purchase at a retailer that’s part of the airline’s shopping portal. One traveller did six San Francisco-chicago roundtrips over eight days last month. He’d catch a flight after work, sleep on the way to Chicago, immediately turn around and sleep on the flight home. He showered in the lounge, changed clothes and went to work. Each of his six tickets cost him less than $200 and, thanks to some bonus offers, earned him enough extra miles to put him over the top in his annual quest to re-qualify for the airline’s top elite status – with its free upgrades and double miles. The article in the print edition is accompanied by a pic of a grinning Pizzaman & Randy getting out of the pool at the AA facility. Both are wearing their inflated life vests (did they inflate when you pulled the tabs or did you have to calmly blow into the tube? And how come the vests aren't securely fastened around your waists? ) and Pizza is of course wearing his tie. If I'm not mistaken there are a couple of other MP'ers in the background (one in the pool, one on the deck). The original story is from Associated Press so perhaps someone could find it there too. Congratulations to the organizers of OWMD. Though I missed it, the Do certainly sounds like it was a good one!
