With AA, IT, and MA in such dire financial straits, maybe a bit of positive news for OW is needed though admittedly AB's financial situation isn't so rosy either....

    LINK.

airberlin will become a full member of oneworld® with effect from Tuesday 20 March 2012, adding Europe's sixth largest carrier to the premier global airline alliance. Austrian airline NIKI, also a member of the airberlin group, will join oneworld at the same time as an affiliate member.

airberlin received its green light to board oneworld after successfully completing a thorough review of its readiness conducted by British Airways, which is sponsoring its entry into the alliance, with the oneworld central team.

Which also is seeing service reductions in the hopes of turning profitable. With JL's restructuring and the demise of Canadian Airlines and Mexicana, it's clear OW sure knows how to pick em! ;)

One week to go. Hopefully AB's OW entrance goes smoother than IT's!

Well, as long as it happens at all, it will be better. The bar wasn't set very high by IT!

Actually I think the bar crashed, burned, and then defaulted on its plane leases. :D

And to think I saw a sign with IT listed on it as a member of OW not too long ago in the SFO AC. Whoops!

Nice to have other (Non-BA) options for getting to Europe.

Agreed, and Africa as well. Not as extensive as BA and Comair, but still a few options.

And, sadly, with UK departure taxes going up AGAIN in April, it helps some maintain that strategy of starting their long-hauls from somewhere other than the UK.
(example, instead of flying ex-LHR, grab cheap economy seat over to DUS, on a separate ticket, and start the trip there).

As of right now, I am trying to book a flight on AB and it doesn't regconize my AA status, still require money to choose the seats.
