Overseas Rental Car Discount Codes Now Limited to Local Residents?

    It seems to be true in New Zealand, how about elsewhere? All the rental car companies seem to have this policy. The standard AAA CDP discount does apply with Hertz, but no PCs that I could find.

    I know that residency restriction has been in Hertz's T&Cs at least since 2008.

    That said, whether they enforce it or not is a totally different matter. ;o)

    Well, booking with a U.S. address or credit card leads to an unexplained error code with Hertz. Calling their 800 number yields the local resident explanation. With the other companies, you are required to check a box certifying to NZ residency when making a booking.

    Update: here's a workaround allowing use of Hertz PC 163144, which provides 2 free days in a one-week rental: book through the Qantas FF webpage. Then call Hertz to get FF credit in a different airline program.
