JALPak posted this in the OW forum, but for those AA citizens who would like to know....

    LINK.

"Kingfisher Airlines will become part of oneworld® with effect from Friday 10 February 2012, adding India's leading carrier to the premier global airline alliance.

It will be the first carrier from the subcontinent to join any of the global airline groups - and the first of three airlines to join oneworld in its biggest membership expansion drive for five years, with airberlin set to follow it on board the alliance shortly afterwards and Malaysia Airlines later in the year.
Kingfisher Airlines received its green light to board oneworld after successfully completing a thorough review of its readiness conducted by British Airways, which is sponsoring its entry into the alliance, with the oneworld central team.

So from 10 February 2012, it will be offering oneworld's full range of services - and substantially expanding the alliance's network throughout India, one of the fastest growing regions of the world for air travel demand.

For Kingfisher Airlines, joining oneworld will strengthen its competitive offering and its financial position, enabling it to offer customers an unrivalled alliance global network served by partners including some of the best and biggest airlines in the world."

Hopefully they can stay in business longer than MX! LINK.

"The BBC is also reporting that the carrier has been forced to ground 15 aircraft this week, with the Economic Times reporting that Kingfisher is struggling to pay maintenance costs."

There are some serious doubts that Kingfisher will survive:

How come that "billionaire business tycoon", Vijay Mallya, doesn't put more of his own money into the airline instead of asking the people of India for a bailout?

It may come to that, but the government is bailing out Air India... so why not ask?

The government actually owns Air India, last I checked, so they are essentially bailing themselves out (or making the taxpayers do it).

Correct, Air India is a CPSE (Central Public Sector Enterprise - a wholly owned entity). This doesn't stop the government from bailing them out, though, see: http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/...ackage-for-Air-India/articleshow/10909615.cms

lets put it this way, the govt is using my money to bail air india out. the govt is not bailing kingfisher out. the situation on the ground is different than it is made out in the media... air india is the root cause of all losses in indian aviation right now (they sold seats at $60 a.i.) losing about 25$ per seat just for to cover operational costs. and thanks to them, everyone has had to price low and lose money!!!! grrrrr! even Jet Airways went into losses again due to this stupid race to fill planes. And most Indians are first time flyers, or occassional flyers, so they always go with the lowest cost option, hence, if IT and 9W wont price low, they'd lose the market to AI!

Doesn't look like it. OW just announced that Kingfisher's (IT) entry into OW is now on hold: LINK.

It's not a really good day for OW.

India's Kingfisher Airlines and oneworld® today agreed to put the airline's entry into the alliance on hold to give it time to strengthen its financial position.

Its implementation into oneworld had been planned for Friday, 10 February.
