Should come as no surprise if you've been peeking around the AA related forums/blogs lately, but AA is delaying resumption of ORD-HEL and JFK-BUD service until June 12. Original dates for resumption were 4/3.

    LINK.

Additionally AA is canceling service between JFK-YHZ (Halifax).

Considering that they have OWP (well, for as long as Malev lasts) that fly this, I think that makes sense in the current climate.

I'm hoping to use some miles on Malev to see Budapest soon.

I'll miss the ability to go direct though. I was considering both HEL and BUD for early spring.

Aw, I was hoping to redeem some BA Avios (just 4,500 each way!) on the JFK-YHZ route this summer.

1W now has no presence in YHZ (unless you count the Westjet operated AA codeshare flights)

OW has been weak in Canada from the get go considering how quickly Canadian Airlines was acquired by AC. OW can get you into Canada, but they struggle to move you around Canada or outside of the major cities.

Oh how I wish Westjet joined OW

I see a new code share with them and DL ... could ST be an option for them?

Westjet is probably going to partner with anybody because they can make more that way by providing connections to both OW and ST. Only if a third major Canadian carrier were to arise would they seriously consider partnering with a particular alliance exclusively.

Sigh. Sorry to see JFK-YHZ go. I have family very near YHZ. UA always charges a fortune to get up there, and recently discontinued IAD-YHZ. So, there was no real incentive to go UA, since both UA and AA were connections for me.

I can only imagine what UA is going to charge now. Random dates in April for connecting service show over $600 RT, which is within the realm of the old normal.

So what would this mean to my JFK-BUD leg if I am in the middle of a stopover on a business class oneworld distance base award as follows: aus-dfw-mex-lim-cuz-(stop)-lim-mia-dfw-(stop)-bna-jfk-bud-(stop)-dub-(stop)-ord-dfw-aus

I did the aus-dfw-mex-lim-cuz-(stop)-lim-mia-dfw portion in September and the rest of the trip is supposed to take place in May/June.

They'll reaccomodate you, most likely with BA/AY/IB. MA might not even be operating tomorrow, so I'd avoid a reroute on them. ;)

Thanks for the reply, with the death of MA + the suspension, do you think there is any chance I can change my routing and avoid BUD all together? Maybe go to a different location within the mileage rule or go straight to DUB? Also, is the hassle cause by this compensatable?

Random side note - is it compensatable or compensable?
