I have read several posts regarding multiple stopover award tickets but I'm still confused. If I want to fly out of either Atlanta, Dallas, or Chicago and stopover in Edinburgh, Copenhagen and Munich for one week and then return home, how do I avoid paying for 3 separate award tickets?

I don't know why you would want to do this considering you MIGHT have a leg or two on BA which would result in a fuel surcharge... Personally, I would go with a rail pass since the rail system in Europe is efficient and reliable.

Here is a link to some rules related to Oneworld awards: LINK.

Here is a link to the Oneworld award chart: LINK.

The most comprehensive explanation you can find on Oneworld awards is on FT currently, the first post should tell you most of what you'd need to know: LINK.

To plan your trip, keep in mind that:

CPH is served by: BA, AY, IB, and MA.

MUC is served by: BA, AY, IB, and RJ.

    EDI is limited to BA.

So you can actually do an itinerary like DFW-MAD-MUC-HEL-CPH-MAD-LHR-EDI-LHR-DFW. Many options are available.

Keep in mind as mentioned above that BA flights incur an extra fuel surcharge which will increase your out of pocket expenses.

All that being said, jimgotkp makes a good point. You might save yourself a bit of miles and money buy just booking a ticket from DFW-FRA, taking a the train to MUC, CPH, and EDI before heading down to LHR to catch a flight back LHR-DFW.
