Hasn't Mexicana gone out of business. What's their current status with Oneworld. IIRC when Varig had a similar financial situation, they were booted from Star Alliance.

Mexicana has not been booted out of Oneworld.

Indeed there are signs of a possible resurrection.

Airlines in Europe and South American don't get much love online, do they? I wonder if people discussing them resort to their own languages rather than discussing in English or whether there just isn't enough interest to warrant their own forums....

Just like the Japanese carriers. You don't get much info online in English. Majority of their customers are Japanese. You can find lots of info available in Japanese but tough luck finding them in English.

Well MP should become bilingual then to cope with this. No problem with JAL/ANA information manly being in Japanese though!

It will be hard unless the translation engine works perfectly or different versions of the forum is completely separated.

Should I add Jetstar to the list now that their CEO has confirmed they will join OW. Or should I wait till it is approved by all alliance members? I don't see why they should object though :p

I sure hope Mexicana comes back, or OW will have a major hole.... unless they grab Volaris which is doubtful.

The Mexicana/LAN combo has been a big part of OW's dominance in Central/South America. We're weak in parts of Asia, need to hold on here!

Isn't KA a full member of OW?

  17. Not really. They are fully owned by Cathay and thus are an affiliate. There isn't really a Dragonair anymore.. only the crew.. and they are paid by Cathay too.. All maintenance, marketing, sales, catering.. whatever.. its all Cathay.

  18. I think Alaska Airlines would make a perfect addition to Oneworld. Especially with the number of American Airlines codeshares they have. I've done the Alaska Airlines First class a few times and was very impressed from San Francisco to Seattle and Los Angeles to Seattle.

Tell me about it. If I want EQPs when I visit SEA, I have to fly LAX-DFW-SEA which is way more expensive than a direct flight :(

  20. Indeed in fact it can be very expensive taking that option not to mention a long way around!
Also I have never had the F tickets post automatically to my BA Exec account with it always requiring them to be faxed which is always such a hassle.
However F class does get you into the rather good Alaska lounges if you don't have Priority Pass. A fact not very clear on their website, however whenever I have booked using the AA codeshare such as on a KUP/YUP ticket as far as SFO from LAX, for example, and then onwards with AS at SFO, they have no issues letting me in. (I don't have priority pass as find the Amex Gold Preferred rewards card better value for earning points than the Platinum one).

I think you should add Ryanair because we all know that's got to be next.

MX is to start flying "soon" with seven A320s, and expects to be flying with 40 A320s by the end of 2011 domestically as well as internationally to /from HAV, LAX, MIA, ORD and SAT by mid-year, and expects to add 33 more A320s by the year's end. http://mexicanainforma.com (Castilian only).

AS would be a great addition to OW, but I'm not sure AS is interested. While they do have a lot of codeshares with AA, I believe they have a lot of codeshares with many airlines. They also are one of the few AA partners on which you earn elite qualifying points/miles, but I don't know if this unique to AA. (People cruder than I have characterized AS as the floozie of the airline world, partnering with a great deal of them.)

Floozie is a nice way of putting it. :) I've yet to come up with a good compound work with eskimo and whore to describe it. Whorskimo is the best I can offer.

AS MP members get EQMs on AA, LA, DL, AF, and KL. RDMs on CX, BA, QF, KE RDMs on FJ, FI, KS, M5 and 7H as well, but those aren't affiliated with any alliance. Only *A doesn't seem to allow the Whorskimo to play in its sandbox. It really isn't too bad of a deal for someone living in an AS hub.

I don't see AS as part of any sort of alliance, either. Further, the reciprocity for upgrades, etc is far better with DL than with AA. (ie: they exist)
