I landed at LHR T3 on Saturday, my bag did not.

After watching all the better behaved luggage from my flight go round and round until there was no-one left but me and a few broken luggage tags, I approached the new BA Luggage counter. The attendant looks at my bag tag, and tutts "well, 3 airlines, hardly surprising..."

They were CX, AY and BA.

He was oblivious to the giant neon One World logo that filled the wall behind him. I laughed - it was all I could do.

My bag and I were united 24 hours later, the same cannot be said of the OW carriers, nor their staff.

Well, being in an alliance doesn't mean they have special handling for baggages. It's just the same if you had interlined your baggages from NH, for example.

I understand that. It was the juxtaposition of the giant OW logo and the attitude that rang the irony gong for me.

Other than lounge access virtually useless.

Well at least you can earn status by flying alliance partner, which is easier than just flying the carrier of your primary FFP

Even three flights on the same airline (eg AA) you are probably luck for things not to get lost

Very true. That is just what I was doing. Flying on CX, AY and BA and crediting all to BA. Using my BA status for lounge access (I was in J anyway, so no biggie there). I also have an MA Gold and a QF Pub card which are both good for BA Galleries Lounges.

I love the letter of the Global Alliances, I'd just like to see the spirit!

The oneworld blurb at the end of a flight always makes me laugh - I have a vision of the warm reception I'd get if I presented myself at the desk of a fellow oneworld member and asked for help - it would undoubtedly involve being pointed in the direction of the nearest BA desk if that was the carrier.... Never mind the pointlessness of said announcement when flying into an airport served solely by the carrier you're flying on!

I love AA. They are so brutal! The way they insist pax step out of the aisle when boarding, and enforce carry-on rationalisation with zeal and intimidation...I tried suggesting to a BA FA try something ruthlessly similar - they weren't buying it.[IMG]

Depends on the carrier! Some of them take good care of your luggages unlike others!

Ime BA enforces carry-on restrictions with plenty of zeal.

BA: "We do have a very full flight today so if you are carrying more than one item, please place the smaller item under the seat in front."

AA: "Whose bag is this? C'mon, own up, or I'm throwing it off the plane"

That's an exact quote? Incredible. [IMG]

Fwiw the standard AA speech is remarkably similar to the one you've attributed to BA.

Actually, iirc the wording has changed and the statement on the BA website and on board BA flights is now, "Your second item of hand baggage must be placed under the seat in front of you" instead of "Your second item of hand luggage may be placed under the seat in front of you".

Yes, an exact quotation. And I don't dispute that their positions differ, it's the follow through and the execution I love about AA.

Oneworld remains a goal, not a reality. However, they have made some major strides in this direction in the last year, and from what I hear more are coming. So let's give them some credit, while still wanting more at a faster pace.

One of the strides that oneworld can make that would make me very happy is oneworld award booking online. I know this is coming, but the problem is that I fear it is a ways off.
