    The more pressing question is whether they paid using a Chase Sapphire to earn double points on dining.

    Somehow 70k for a lunch for 15 suggested a poor way to spend other peoples money (well or even my own)- but that's just me;)

    A poor way to invest 70k indeed, but that's not for us to decide, spent is spent, I now can only hope they enjoyed it, especially the Hennessey 1853, this bottle alone gave this lunch adventure " a real boost "....:D

    Well, I don't think we know who's money was spent. We can certainly speculate that it's IOC or organizing committee money, and it would not surprise me, but as I read the story, there's only a receipt and that's it.

    Sure, and I used that term in my post that you quoted (as a verb)... but just like there are probably lots folks who spend other people's money and don't think anything of it, there are also folks who spend their own money. Now, there is no way in hell that I would ever spend 19,000 pounds for a bottle of anything... but that's just me...

    IOC = not for profit

    Other than selling it at a charity auction, what should a not for profit be doing with a bottle costing £19,000?

    Against, there's nothing here saying who was in the party. Perhaps Olympic execs were here, but this wasn't their bill? Or, maybe some picks up the tab different than the committee? A sponsor or someone pa?

    Something still isn't adding up for "lunch". There's still 20K pounds not accounted for. 15 people? I'm suspecting the lovely Scotches at the Dorcester are further up on the bill.

    it sucks having to stay under or at GSA rates whenever other groups (even the GSA, itself!) do this.

    The food itself is surprisingly reasonable for the Dorchester. Not quite sure how the service charge was worked out - seems prices may have included 12.5% service charge and VAT which was then shown separately in the summary.

    Wouldn't pay £190 for a drink, let alon £1900 or £19000!
