Old planes refurbished to offer taste of luxury
I think they oversell how good things were - in an absolute sense - more than a bit, as well as undersell the price. Glamour, solid dining, fantastic soft product for sure, but also on a vibrating, slow, weather-affected plane. And not cheap. Today's premium hard products are pretty darn good. Economy on the other hand is cheaper, but tighter, with maybe some ife (but current seat widths, except for some of the boundary-pushing widebodies, go back to the start of the jet age).
More than anything, accessibility has increased and novelty reduced. Air travel in general is a commodity, and difficult to compare directly with what was a luxury product.
