So I book a redeye, but request standby on the first flight of the day. Between those two flights is a second booked itinerary. There is no overlap of flight times. Any issues?

Are you not planning on flying the second ticket? Or is this a positioning flight that is cheaper and you're trying to "cheat" to get the better time and cheaper fare?

If the latter the only thing I'd be concerned with is not making the SDC/standby and missing the second itinerary. Other than that, I see no problems with having two separate PNRs with nothing overlapping.

Thanks....I plan to fly all segments, and AFAIK all fare rules are met. My desired A-B morning flight is priced unrealistically high IMHO, and will probably be the subject of a later fare sale since it tends to go out with many empty seats on a weekend. So I booked the reasonably priced redeye instead.
