I'll be attending the FTU in New Jersey on April 28th & 29th and plan on driving from Manhattan each day. I'd be happy to give lifts to anyone who can meet in mid-town Manhattan. I can take four riders (three window, one center seat) plus two more if you're willing to ride in the jumper seat in the back of the station wagon (my wife, 5'2", can ride there reasonably comfortably).

I'm 80-90% certain that I'll be driving both days. I plan on arriving for the first session and staying through the end of each day, but may not be staying for dinner afterwards on Saturday. I may also be slightly delayed Sunday morning. I'll be able to confirm definite times about a week before the event.

I live in Harlem and would plan on swinging through midtown, picking people up west of Times Square which is a big hotel area and easily reachable by subway. Anywhere between Harlem and Times Square on the west side is also do-able. By car, the trip should take no more than 20 or 30 minutes.

If you are interested please PM me and I'll add you to the list in the order I receive your message. Three people have already told me that their interested, although none are definite so even if the list grows beyond the 4 to 6 people I can carry, I suggest you add your name to it and there's a reasonable possibility space will open up.

    This list at present:

    Seacarl
    katstarr (MD)
    Irluis
onfo (Saturday morning and Sunday evening only)
    robin
    cloisterman (MD)
    karenrad (Saturday morning only)
    Mr. S (Sunday only)
    dkelly1110 (Saturday) (MD)
    Tania (2 people, sunday only)

Terrific idea - much faster than the 2hr+ public transportation commute that Google Maps/HopStop is proposing...

Looks like I'll also be driving to the Saturday session from UES in Manhattan, room for 3 other people in the car. How shall we coordinate this?

I suggest we keep a single list at the top of this thread. Once we "close registration" (maybe a week before the event) we can assign people to one car or another depending on their point of origin.

    How does that sound?

Any advice on what's the best way to get to the Sheraton from EWR?

Depending on how much time you have and money you want to save:
Airtrain to EWR station, NJT to SEC (Secaucus) station, Sheraton shuttle from there
    Supershuttle
    Taxi or rental car

I will be arriving at EWR that Friday, so I will follow your advise and take Airtran on my way to the Sheraton. Do you know about how long this may take, airport to hotel? Thanks, ;-)

Airtrain runs every 4 minutes and takes 5-10 minutes to EWR station, depending on which terminal you arrive.

NJT runs approx 3-4 times per hour, so you should get a train within 20 minutes. Time on the train is maybe 12-15 minutes - it's just 2 stops.

I believe the hotel shuttle is only hourly. You should check the website and/or call the hotel to confirm, including when it ends. So that's the worst connection. I don't know if there are cabs available at SEC station.

Well thanks again for all the details. Now I know what to expect as I make my way to this year's FT University. It should be fun, I just hope it doesn't rain that weekend!

Im arriving into EWR in the evening on Friday (around 1930) and hiring a car to drive to the hotel, if anyone wants a lift just yell (and you can experience my shocking driving-on-the-wrong-side-of-the-road skills ;))

Okay, I'll be finalizing plans today for everyone who's planning on riding from NYC to the Meadowlands.

Metzgerdog26 will be taking people from the Upper East Side on Saturday.

I'll be meeting people in midtown both Saturday & Sunday.

Please look for a PM from me, or post your reconfirmation in this thread.

Okay, getting the PM ready. Meeting point will be 9th between 40th & 41st, which is the 9th exit from Port Authority. Is that do-able for you?

Actually, it's under an overpass, and there's an (admittedly grotty) indoor area you can wait in.
