I joined the Delta Frequent Flyer Program in 1981 (or maybe 1982). My membership number is 201xxxxxxx. I remember that I got a 10,000 mile bonus for signing up. This was enough for a first class upgrade, which I promptly redeemed.

I flew this past week on a mundate domestic route on DL. (It was the same route that I flew the first time I flew DL.) In the details of the miles from the flight activity, I got the basic flight miles, the COS bonus and the PM bonus. In addition to these points, there were 5,000 extra bonus miles associated with the flight, labled "SkyMiles Enrollment - 5000 bonus miles."

It has been about 30 years since I signed up, so it seems a little late for an enrollment bonus.

Any ideas what this is for?

Are you sure there wasn't some bonus promo you registered for that would apply to this flight? A lot of the domestic flight promos that attempt to increase demand in certain markets, such as the RDU/PIT/BNA/STL promos last year, tend to award 5000 bonus miles. Without knowing the route, it's hard to guess. (Is there something now with NYC?)

BTW, I also have a very old DL account. Mine has a ten-digit number (like yours) starting with 100, so 100XXXXXXX for me. I almost expect a long-term DL staff person to comment on it someday.

It was FLL-LGA. I don't recall a promotion on this route, nor any for NY.

I do get comments like this from time to time (perhaps 2x a year). "Wow, you've been around for a while" and "You've been a frequent flyer since the start." and the like.

I can't say I ever heard of the 100xxxxxxx numbers. I have seen 200xxxxxxx, but nothing lower. I wonder if I really signed up in 1982 instead of 81, which might reflect the difference. I definitely got the 10k bonus, which I redeemed very quickly.

I've seen a few of the 400xxxxxxx, which are the Pan Am numbers.

When the NW/DL merger happened, I was careful to preserve my old DL number rather than letting them give me a new one or alter my NW number, which was also very old. NW was clearly my primary program at the time and had lots more activity and miles.

    No ideas on this bonus?

  10. This happened to me as well - I have a 205xxxxxxx number. I got 5000 miles as a Skymiles enrollment bonus. I seem to remember something about a 5000 bonus when my Delta AMEX renews. It is about that time when I have to decide if I will pay to renew (or call to see what they will negotiate if I say I am going to cancel).

I justed logged in to DL...and the 5,000 mile signup bonus is gone! The flight is still there, but with one line-item less. Anyone else have theirs vanish?
